As a self-proclaimed Cleveland cheerleader, I’m usually the first to jump at the opportunity to go to events in our city. But sometimes, I really just want to kick up my feet and indulge in some good food and drinks. So once you’re done checking out all the holiday attractions around town, it might be time to take a break and check out some foodie joints.
Before I’m ready to stuff my face with food, drinks at Velvet Tango Room are needed. The French 75 is my cocktail of choice, and with its blend of fresh ingredients, I’m instantly relaxed. Hovering right outside of the main buzz on 25th street, this gem provides some of the best hand crafted cocktails in the city, and features live jazz nightly. Try and catch their happy hour – drinks are only $10. Trust me, it’s worth the splurge.
Picking a dinner venue is next to impossible in Cleveland, because there are so many fantastic and amazing restaurants. Since we’re still in holiday mode, I’ll focus on some of the special occasion joints that really are a treat!
Recently voted “Most Romantic” and “Best Seafood” by Scene Magazines’ Best of 2013, Pier W is right up there as a top pick. The Crab Stuffed Gulf White Shrimp is mouthwatering, and the lobster bisque is a great starter! The view of the Cleveland skyline and Lake Erie bump this venue up to heavenly. If you find that Christmas shopping is breaking the bank, happy hour features half off apps and martinis. Make sure you get there early, as the bar area fills up quick!
Heading over to the Tremont area is Dante. This restaurant is located in an old, beautiful bank building that includes a vault you can dine in, as well as a toasty fireplace in their back room. Dante’s offers a blend of Italian, French and Asian cuisines and no matter what you choose, I can pretty much guarantee you won’t be disappointed!
Luca, located on the Superior Viaduct, is one of the newer additions to Cleveland’s food scene and is well worth a trip. This Italian restaurant is only open at night and offers stunning views of the city – including the iconic Terminal Tower and the industrial bridges over the Cuyahoga River. Although definitely more upscale, you instantly feel warm and cozy. Be prepared to be wined and dined.
