Get Out of Town at Hofbrauhaus Cleveland

Been fantasizing about grabbing a pint at an authentic German beer garden but haven’t been able to make your way to Munich? Not to worry; you can get all you’ve been dreaming of at one of the newest restaurants in Cleveland – the Hofbrauhaus.

You’ll feel like you’ve been transported to Europe the second you walk through the door. From the interesting German attire that the staff wears, to the live polka band. Dinner is seat yourself, so be prepared to make friends with your neighbors over a nice, cold liter of beer. We visited the Hofbrauhaus on a Tuesday evening and it was slammed! A lot of the crowd seemed to be heading to the theater after dinner, as the crowd started thinning out around 7 p.m.

Aside from the European vibe, be prepared for a very heavy meal as the menu includes a lot of fried options and generous portions. For my vegetarian friends out there, be prepared to eat some potato pancakes and pierogies for dinner. Otherwise you’re pretty much out of luck. I sampled the beer battered walleye and ordered a side of the biggest onion rings I’ve ever seen. Aside from my tasty meal, I tried their Oktoberfest half liter, in order to ensure I wouldn’t sleep through the entire show. Service wasn’t half bad, but definitely room for improvement in terms timeliness and checking in on us to make sure we didn’t need anything else.

Overall, I’d give this restaurant a 4 out of 5. I’m excited to come back over a weekend to check out the craziness I’ve only seen from the windows so far. Last Saturday I drove by and people were standing on the bench seats drinking liters of beer. Can’t wait to see what that is all about!
