For Lovers or Friends – Valentine’s Day To Do’s

HeartIf you read my post on Cleveland Metroparks Blog, you already know that I like to think outside of the box for what to do on Valentine’s Day. While I’m never going to turn down a delicious meal, I think there are plenty of other spots to spend with your sweetheart that can be both romantic, fun and not utterly cheesy. Here’s to celebrating Valentine’s Day a little differently this year!

Cleveland Kurentovanje Festival

I’m sure you are wondering what the heck kind of festival this is, unless you are a very knowledgeable Slovenian. Kurentovanje is the most popular event in Slovenia and the Kurent is a fuzzy looking creature that is believed to chase away winter and usher in spring. If a groundhog can predict how many more weeks of winter, I’m all for using a Kurent to chase away these freezing temps. The event will include a parade, food and drink, costumes and of course Kurents! Activities start as early as 11 a.m. with Slovenian donuts (“krofe”), coffee and shop at Collective Upcycle. The parade kicks off at noon!

West Side Market

Stroll hand in hand at one of Cleveland’s most iconic and historic spots. Grab a crepe from Crepes De Luxe and sit on the second level while enjoying the views of the bustling market below. After you’ve grabbed some grub you have all of restaurants and coffee shops in Ohio City at your fingertips. Warm up at Bonbon with some hot chocolate or head to Mitchell’s from some ice cream. Or skip the sweets entirely, and grab a brewski!

The Cleveland Museum of Art

Not only is general admission free, but if you wanted to grab a bite to eat you have the Provenance Cafe right at your fingertips. Grab a seat in the atrium of the museum and marvel at the sheer size of the room. Once you’re done resting your legs, spend the afternoon discovering a bit of history as you explore the exhibits on display.

Chili Bowl Classic 5K

While the weather might be a tad bit dicey on Saturday morning, maybe you are your significant other are the competing type. Head downtown to the Galleria for this chilly 5K and then get toasty afterwards with homemade chili prepared by local firehouses! I promise that the snacks after the race will more than warm you up, plus the cold weather gives you an excuse to get extra cozy!
